Wetumpka, AL - Wetumpka United's recreational league, currently called the Bridge League, had a successful start to its season after the games were moved from Tuesday to Thursday due to inclement weather.
Players and parents braved the chilly weather to enjoy the fun and competition of the league's first weekend. The league had its opening ceremony and commenced with six games on its opening day.
"We are happy to see the large turnout with parents and players after the rain delay," said Coach Lewis. "We had many (players) who were here for the opening ceremonies and many came later for the late games. It is great to see people playing soccer again. We used to have numerous rec leagues running at the same time in the area, but circumstances for some reason seemed to change that to the point we didn't have many options in the fall. We hope we can all work to build soccer back stronger than ever in the area. It's a great sport that should be easily accessible to whoever wants to play it.
