Wetumpka United dominates three games for an aggregate 18-3 on the way to the championship.

Hoover, AL. - Wetumpka United won a championship in their first tournament of 2022, the Hoover Havoc tournament on the turf fields at the Hoover Met Sports Complex.

United never trailed in the tournament and scored 18 goals over three games while allowing only 3 goals for a goal differential of 15.  Billy Lewis led United with 13 goals.  Carlos Medina allowed 3 goals and included a clean sheet (no goals in a game).

“I am very proud of the result, but more importantly it comes from the hard work our players have put in since January to develop their abilities.  There was not a lot of success in the fall so to see the approach these players have taken and the difference based we are seeing on the field has been satisfying,” said Coach Lewis

Teams in their division were placed in two groups to compete.  United won their first game against a Hoover Soccer Club team (HSC) 6-2.  United was powered by four goals (a haul) from Billy Lewis, one goal to start the scoring by Ethen Bryll  and a closing goal by Justin Evans.

United then played the BUSA Alabaster to determine who would go to the finals in from their group.   United dominated the match by an addition received another four goals by Billy Lewis.  Josiah Hester capped the first half with an important goal after driving up 3 fourths of the field, and Jason Evans hit the goal of the week with a beautiful arc shot to seal the game in dominating fashion with a 6-0 win.   Carlos Medina ended the game with a clean sheet and the defense allowed only one shot on goal thanks to the blanket coverage by Carson Powe.

United played the final game against a Group B team from Hoover Soccer Club.  HSC made the final after a 4-1 victory over AYSO 1586 Elite (Wetumpka).   After an initial physical 10 minutes of back and forth action, Wetumpka United took the board first with a free kick goal by Billy Lewis.  Billy went on to 4 more goals on three goals and a penalty kick to end the day with a glut (5 goals).   HSC was able to penetrate and score 1 goal on the day.   Justin Evans ended the scoring with a goal at the end of the second half and Wetumpka United dominated on their way to claim the Hoover Havoc Championship, 6-1.

“I love my teammates.  We all work together to do what we need to do to win the game and if we get down we pick each other up.  We are a family, and we play for each other,” said Billy Lewis.
